Alistair MacGregor was elected in 2015 as Member of Parliament for the new riding of Cowichan—Malahat—Langford. He now serves as the NDP’s Critic for Agriculture and sits on the Standing Committee for Agriculture and Agri-food.
He entered Parliament with a track-record of fighting for Vancouver Island families. As a long-time staffer to retiring MP Jean Crowder, he worked tirelessly to connect with local residents, listen to their concerns and advance their priorities. From assisting seniors with pension issues to helping young families struggling to make ends meet, Alistair earned a reputation for delivering results.
A resident of Cowichan Valley for more than 25 years, Alistair is intimately familiar with the region, its residents, and its priorities. He has long supported community-based and local agriculture, and as a two-year board member of Cowichan Green Community Society, Alistair helped promote environmental sustainability and increased food security.
Alistair previously worked eight years in British Columbia’s forests as a tree-planter, crew-boss, and eventual supervisor. He holds a BA from the University of Victoria and an MA from Royal Roads University.
Alistair and his wife are proud parents to young twin daughters. They live on a small farm where they enjoy growing fruit and vegetables and raising sheep and chickens.
